COMMENTS

The XFL (the anagram was the league name), was formed in 2001 by WWE wrestling promoter Vince McMahon, in partnership with NBC, to be a spring rival of the NFL. NBC was desperate for football after losing AFC coverage to CBS, but no one knew how desperate until the week after the Super Bowl in February of 2001, when the inaugural XFL game was televised. The league was unique in that all teams were owned by McMahon. In order to increase excitement, the coin-toss was replaced by a fumble drill, players and coaches were miked, players could wear nicknames on their uniforms, the winners of the championship, the Million Dollar Bowl, received a million dollar bonus, and cheerleaders hung out in the stands and were video taped getting ready in the locker room. Unfortunately, the spectacle couldn't detract from the poor play on the field. McMahon knew promotion but he didn't know football and the league folded after a single year.

As far as I can tell, all the above helmets are accurate. The LA Xtreme had a very small navy blue tapered stripe rising from the back of the helmet which isn't visible from the angle above. Also, the San Francisco Demons stripes tapered from the front AND back, meeting at a point in the center, which I was unable to show.
