The arrangement above reflects the final alignment for the 2005 season. The Baton Rouge Wildcats and Kansas City Storm are new franchises. The Connecticut Lightning and Tucson Wildfire are new exhibition teams. The Redding Rage, Southern Maine Rebels, Jacksonville Dixie Blues, Rhode Island Intensity and Detroit Predators were exhibition teams last year. The San Diego Sea Catz and Montreal Blitz moved down to exhibition status. Two other teams, the So Cal Bandits and Texas Revolution were slated as full-time teams, but both folded before the season ended.

In other news, the San Francisco Stingrayz left the IWFL to join the WPFL for 2005. Several other teams from 2004, all exhibition teams, have folded. The Chicago Force were sold, or re-organized, prior to the playoffs. The team participated in the post season as "Chicago Football" and promises a new identity for 2006.

HISTORICAL TEAMS

Below are historical helmets for the IWFL. The league has been around since at least 2000, but I only have information going back to 2002. Any help with missing dates, and teams, is much appreciated.

After two years as a "regular" team, the Night-mares played as an exhibition team in 2004.

ARIZONA TITANS

2001

The Titans were a member of the IWFL in 2001. They also played in AWFL.

AUSTIN OUTLAWS

2002

The Outlaws played for sure in 2002, perhaps earlier. After a year as an independent team, they joined the NWFA in 2004.

The Wildcats are a new franchise for 2005.

BAY STATE WARRIORS

2004

The Spartans played briefly as an exhibition team in 2004.

CHICAGO FORCE

2003 2004 - 2005

The Force were a perfect 9-0 during their inaugural regular season. As stated above, prior to the 2005 playoffs, the team was either sold, or re-organized, and participated in the post season as simply "Chicago Football". The team will have a new identity for the 2006 season.

CONNECTICUT LIGHTNING

2005 - present

The Lightning joined the league in 2005 as an exhibition team.

CORVALIS PRIDE

The Revolution entered the league in 2003. They became an exhibition team last year. I believe the team may be related to the Texas Revolution.

All the evidence I have points to the team wearing navy blue helmets with no logo. Any other information is much appreciated.

DES MOINES COURAGE

2004 - present

The Courage played as an exhibition team in 2004.

DETROIT BLAZE

2003

The Blaze were an exhibition team in 2003. The above helmet is based upon a web graphic someone shared with me. I have no other evidence for the appearance of the helmet. I may be very different from what is depicted above. Any additional information is much appreciated.

I believe the Blitz are currently the only Canadian team playing in a US league.

NEW HAMPSHIRE FREEDOM

2002 - 2004 2005 - present

The Freedom seem to be one of the more successful franchises, maintaining "full" team status since 2002, perhaps earlier.

NEW YORK SHARKS

2002 - present

The Sharks have been one of the more successful teams since joining the IWFL in 2002, playing in the championship in 2003 and 2004. Prior to that, they played in the WPFL.

OAKLAND BANSHEES

2003 2004 - present

The Banshees played in the WAFL & WAFC prior to joining the IWFL.

OKLAHOMA CITY AVENGERS

2003

The Avengers played a single season. I don't know if the team had any relation to the Oklahoma City Lightning below. Also, I have no idea what happened to the team following the 2003 season.

OKLAHOMA CITY LIGHTNING

2002

The Lightning played in 2002, perhaps earlier. I believe they are related to the Lightning which currently plays in the NWFA.

OREGON THUNDER

2002

The Thunder played in 2002, perhaps earlier. I know what the logo looked like, but have no clue about the helmet.

ORLANDO MAYHEM

The Mayhem replaced the Starz (see below) mid-season in 2004.

ORLANDO STARZ

2002 2003 - 2004

PHILADELPHIA LIBERTY BELLES

2003 - 2004

The Liberty Belles played in the NWFA prior to joining the IWFL. In 2004, they played as an exhibition team.

SAN FRANCISCO STINGRAYZ

SANTA ROSA SCORCHERS

2003 - present

The Scorchers played in the WAFC prior to joining the IWFL.

SO CAL BANDITS

2005 - present

The Bandits were a new franchise for 2005. After being clobbered for 3 games, the team forfeited the remainder of the season. They are now listed as an exhibition team on the league web site.

SOUTHERN MAINE REBELS

2004 - present

The Rebels played as an exhibition team in 2004. I know what the helmet looks like, but I need a copy of the logo to add it here.

TAMPA TEMPEST

2002

The Tempest played in the WPFL prior to joining the IWFL. They may have resurfaced as the Terminators, or folded.

TAMPA BAY TERMINATORS

2003 - present

The Terminators may be the restructured Tempest, or an entirely new team.

TEXAS REVOLUTION

2005 - present

I honestly don't think the Revolution played a down in 2005, although they are still listed on the league web site. I also think they are somehow related to the Dallas Revolution (see above).

TUCSON WILDFIRE

2005 - present

The Wildfire played as a new exhibition team in 2005.

TULSA TORNADOES

2002

The Tornadoes played in 2002, perhaps earlier.

COMMENTS

The IWFL has been around for at least four years. It seems to be some sort of conglomerate of several smaller leagues who couldn't make it on their own, a few teams which left their own leagues, and some completely new teams. The league is divided into two conferences, the Eastern composed of the Atlantic divisions, and the Western, composed of the Pacific divisions. The former champions are the New York Sharks, who defeated the Austin Outlaws in July, 2002. The 2003 champions are the Sacramento Sirens who just recently defeated the Sharks. I don't have much more current or historical information on this league.

I need help to complete this page. Any information you can provide is much appreciated.
