COMMENTS
The American Professional Football League is a Midwest-based indoor football league. They've been around since 2003, when there were at least three teams -- the Kansas Koyotes, Missouri Minutemen & St. Joseph Explorers. I believe the Koyotes were slated to join the NIFL, but backed out and instead formed their own league, the APFL. Interestingly enough, the Explorers would play several exhibition games in the NIFL when one of their teams, the River City Renegades, folded mid-season. I also believe that the Wichita Aviators are somehow connected to the former Wichita Stealth, who played in AF2.
I don't have a great deal of other information on the league. Most of the helmet logos below were given to me by contributor Bill Jones, and I have no information about when, or whether, the teams actually played. Any information on other helmet variations is much appreciated.
HISTORICAL TEAMS
CHICAGO FALCONS

| 2004 (?) |
Some visitors have informed me that this is a semi-pro team that played some exhibition games in the APFL. They are still active as an outdoor team in the Chicago area.
IOWA BLACKHAWKS

The Blackhawks play their home games in Council Bluffs, IA. I believe the 2005 helmet has the logo placed correctly, but I've never seen the right side of the helmet to confirm this.
KC JAZZ

| 2004 (?) |
Like the Chicago Falcons above, the Jazz are an outdoor semi-pro team that played some exhibition games in the APFL, but were never an actual member of the league.
KANSAS KOYOTES

| 2003 | 2004 - present |
The Koyotes play their home games in Topeka, KS. They are by far the most successful APFL franchise, defeating the Minutemen for the championship in 2003, 59-29, and in 2004, 64-6.
KANSAS STORM

|---|
| 2005 - present |
The Storm play their home games in Shawnee, KS. They are a new franchise for 2005. I also have some prototype logos the team displayed on their web site prior to the start of the season. I'll add these helmets soon.
MID STATES CRUDE

I know next to nothing about this team. I suspect they only played exhibition games, or may have never made it to the field.
MISSOURI MINUTEMEN

| 2003 | 2004 - present |
One of the APFL's founding franchises, the Minutemen play their home games in Sedalia, MO.
In 2003, the team wore white helmets with a simple "M" logo. I have photos of the helmet, but I need a copy of the logo in order to add it to the site. Additionally, the team may have also used another version of this "M" logo, colored instead like an american flag. This logo was used on their web site, but I don't know if it was ever used on a helmet.
NEBRASKA BEARS

|---|
| 2005 - present |
The Bears are a new franchise for 2005. They apparently are sharing an arena with the Iowa Blackhawks until they can secure their own lease.
NEBRASKA CHILLERS

I know next to nothing about this team. I suspect they only played exhibition games, or may have never made it to the field.

TEXAS THUNDER

| Pre 2004 | 2004 |
The Thunder played in the APFL in 2004. The first helmet was displayed on their web site, but the basic black helmet was apparently the only one actually worn on the field.
ST. JOSEPH EXPLORERS
![]() |
|---|
| 2003 |
I don't know much about the Explorers, other than that they played in the APFL in 2003 and also played several games as a replacement team in the NIFL.
WICHITA AVIATORS

| 2005 - present |
The Aviators play their home games in Wichita, KS. I suspect they are somehow related to the Wichita Stealth, who played in the AF2.
